Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are. - Brene Brown
Life can be tough sometimes. Sleepless nights, constant worry, a sadness that you just can’t shake. Old wounds that won't heal, addictions that take over. We all face challenges, and they can feel overwhelming. But you don't have to deal with it alone. Reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Together, we can work on finding your path to healing and getting you back to yourself.
I'm Carol Door, a BACP registered therapist based in Bishop Auckland. I'm here to listen, to understand, and to walk beside you as you navigate your way forward. I work with adults, offering therapy that fits your needs, whether that's for a few sessions or longer-term support. My approach blends different methods to help you in the best way possible. You can choose how we meet - in my practice, online, or even walking in nature. I have experience helping people with trauma, addiction, domestic abuse, and workplace problems, among other issues. My goal is to help you understand your feelings better, grow as a person, and become more resilient. I'm here to support you through life's ups and downs, focusing on what works best for you.
Counselling is a collaborative journey of self-discovery and healing. It's a space where you can speak freely about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment. As your therapist, I'm not here to give advice or tell you what to do. Instead, I'll support you in exploring your inner world, understanding your patterns, and developing the tools you need to navigate life's challenges.
I believe in creating a therapeutic environment that suits your needs and comfort level. For those who prefer face-to-face interaction, I offer in-person sessions at my welcoming office in Bishop Auckland. If you're more comfortable engaging from home, or if distance is an issue, online therapy is available via secure video platforms. For those who find movement helpful or enjoy being in nature, I also provide walk-and-talk therapy in the picturesque grounds of Auckland Castle.
Counselling can be beneficial for a wide range of challenges. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or relationship issues, therapy can provide support and strategies for coping. I work with clients facing life transitions, grief and loss, identity concerns, and personal growth aspirations. My specialised training allows me to support those struggling with substance abuse, trauma, domestic violence, and the long-term effects of childhood abuse.
My approach to therapy is grounded in both professional training and personal experience. I specialise in supporting individuals dealing with substance abuse, having worked extensively in rehabilitation settings and with various recovery models. Trauma is another key area of my expertise, particularly in relation to domestic abuse and childhood experiences. I'm passionate about empowering women and have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by women in the Northeast.
As part of my toolkit, I offer the Rewind Technique - a powerful method for addressing trauma and phobias. This gentle, non-invasive approach allows you to process traumatic memories without the need to discuss them in detail. As a trained practitioner, I can guide you through this process, potentially offering relief and a new perspective on past experiences.
